Tonight James Intveld, B-Stars and Red Meat will be performing in honor of the one and only, Elvis Presley. Whether you despise him for singing blues and r&b songs and getting recognition for it or for his rhinestone phase, there’s just so much about this man that you just have to love.
Whether it was his charisma on stage, the attitude in his voice or his hair, there’s just so much to him that people idolize and are envious of. For one, his hair was perfect. Have any of you seen Viva Las Vegas? As he was performing, his head would bob around and so would his hair. You’d see his hair jump around and then magically fall back into place. And I don’t mean drape over and still look good, I mean it really just sat back to where it originally was. Now if that isn’t good hair, I don’t know what is.
Another thing that draws me to him as an artist, is you can hear his own attitude in his voice. Which is how you can tell it’s Elvis singing and not someone emulating him. While there are some who sound damn similar to Elvis, they just don’t have the same attitude he put into the songs.
For the overzealous fans, you can still hunt for him and big foot in the rural areas of America. For the rest of us, we keep him alive by listening to his songs that more or less helped put rockabilly on the map.
Here are a few of my favorite songs by the man.
Ain’t That Lovin’ You Baby
Such A Night (studio cut)
Baby Let’s Play House
And one of my all time favorites…
Can’t Help Falling In Love
Enjoy folks. Don’t forget to pour one for The King tomorrow!
